Hi all - Welcome back for the second time this month!

I apologize for the inconvenience of the site being offline. The site was down for technical reasons, but it didn't help that I was of offline for two weeks (camping and travel). Once I got back, it took a while to get things sorted out. That's resolved, and the site is now back up. Huzzah!

Please take a minute and read the Site News thread I've posted in the General section, and feel free to comment. Thanks!

I sure would like to know how that setup performed as my LCE 3mm overbore failed.

Yup, head gasket leak.. Started to just see a little choco milk on the hg. None in the actual oil. Straight edge reveals no edges but gasket was wet around the hidden bolt.

Time to do some cleaning and reassembly

There is only 2000 or so miles on this motor DCG. Something is up. I put a catch can on and there is some in it, not as much as I would like. Have oil down the front of the motor so I think it ate a head gasket or the timing cover isn't exactly flush with the block. I'll know more when I yank the head.

(I may have contributed to the gunk a bit by running it a bit with old oil)

Some years ago on pirate you spoke of a special finish on the cylinder walls with my total seal rings... Hope that's not it

Quick update: noticed some smoke on start and rev... pulled the intake off and found oil pooling in the lowers.. Looks nasty by the valves. Pulled the plugs... All 4 fouled. Compression test was within spec though all different.

1) 179
2)180
3)182
4)190

I had noticed previously (4 years previously) that pulling the egr resulted in increased carbon buildup on cyl 4.

Gonna pull the head and take another look. Im sure its caked from running rich. Also ran it briefly on 5 year old oil (had to change the fuel pump), only 2000 miles on the existing oil..but it is old and has been sitting. Also found a radiator leak. Once im done with this housecleaning, i'll get to the tune. Will report if i find something neffarious.

Copy that. Will do

I'd sure like to try MS on something.... Might have to be my next project after this one Grin
Anybody know of any tuner Dyno's that run a 4 gas sniffer in Queen Creek, Az? I think my first step is to see if my wideband is still in spec. Then I can start playing with values.

I'm going to hook it all up DCG and see how it plays out. I need to find said Dyno so I know Im accurate with my numbers. I also think its workable. Time will tell. Worst case scenario is the stock stuff will go back on... (Which I kept).

So next question, how does porting, bigger valves and bigger exhaust effect tuning? I'm just trying to work my head around this before I begin. I appreciate your input

Also might take some timing out to cool combustion (prevent some NOx gas)

Nobody seems to know DCG.. I spoke with SDS this morning and they say go for it... Its possible with all emissions on. Then i spoke with Tim at TCR Auto Performance in Tucson (SDS Top tuner) and he says he wouldnt bother.
Tims issue was that SDS parameters arent refined enough and that while SDS is very capable, emissions are where it is weakest (not enough resolution with fuel values in 250rpm increments).
Both say its doable with enough time and effort, but you wouldnt want to drive around on it.
Im thinking a tune that operates at stoich running in closed loop (just above idle through cruise) to see if i can get past the test.
Incedentally, LCE wasmore worried that it wouldnt pass visual because of the coil packs...i think thats more CA standards but wont know till i try.
Im running a wideband PLX btw

Replying to my own text, lol.. Thats a 1st.

The latest scoop is from LCE... They state that egr will show a false rich read. Meaning, o2 sense will read richer than it actually is. (Removal of egr causes a more lean condition)

Ok, this sort of sux... Im not sure if sdi can be tweeked to compinsate for egr activation. Now this begs the question.. How is egr enabled? Under what parameters is egr functioning? To what degree will my motor be running false rich? What corrections should i be compensating for and in what parameter? Could use some help here fella's.

Should the corrections be directed towards map (KPa), rpm fuel value or throttle position? As i understand it... My egr is actuated under vacuum (what that value isfor a 92 re.. i dont know). Been so long since i yanked it out i cant remember if there was a vsv involvolved and what constraints activates egr or vsv? Im a shadetree mechanic at best.. What i need is a shadetree mech engineer, lol.

Hey folks, this is more a generic tuning question for those of you experienced in such. How does EGR effect tuning of standalones? Egr output is upstream of the o2 sensor so is that going to throw off A/F off a bit?

Im putting my egr back on for emmisions and taking a crack at it with my sdsem4f. I tried to look for this topic but my phone (ok, the short between the phone and ground) isnt to user friendly.

Just a slightly built 22re btw... If successful, i'll be looking at boosting later.

Thanks!

Hmmm...well I just spent the day removing the injector harness from the the chassis harness.  Big chinese (er Japanese) finger puzzle.  We'll see if it works later this week.

man, I sure wouldn't mind some pictures of peoples wiring if possible.  Installing sds into my 92 22re 4x4.  It has a few upgrades to the motor and it's basically my testbed for wrenching and upgrades.  Who knows? Maybe my next truck will be a turbo?

Thanks
